About

Fraud is the number one crime committed against older Canadians — and it is growing more sophisticated every year.

Yet most people are never given clear, trustworthy, and non-commercial information about how scams actually work or what to do when something feels wrong. Let's Talk Fraud and Scams was created to fill that gap: to give older adults, their families, and their communities a calm, plain-language guide they can return to any time.

This work also reflects something the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education has long understood: financial health and mental health are deeply connected. Being targeted by fraud — whether or not money is lost — can have lasting emotional effects. By helping people stay informed and in control of their financial lives, we hope to reduce both the financial and the personal harm that fraud causes.

About the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education

The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization, founded in 1974, that works to improve the economic, financial, and enterprising capability of all Canadians.

CFEE works collaboratively with funding partners, departments of education, school boards, schools, educators, teacher associations, colleges and universities, immigrant-serving agencies, and seniors' organizations to develop and provide free, non-commercial programs and resources. CFEE also works internationally with organizations such as the OECD in Paris and APEC.

Overall, CFEE's work focuses on helping people of all ages — including seniors and older adults — to undertake their economic roles, responsibilities, and decisions with confidence and competence, and to avoid the financial stress and anxiety that can affect wellbeing.

Our vision

Every Canadian has the capability and opportunity to build a successful economic future.

The four pillars of CFEE's work

Career Development Capability

Helping people plan their careers, make sound work and education decisions, and access opportunity with confidence.

Financial Capability

Building the knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage money and make good financial decisions at every stage of life.

Economic Capability

Helping people understand the economy and how economic forces shape their choices and daily lives.

Enterprising Capability

Encouraging initiative, problem-solving, and an enterprising approach to life, work, and community.

How we work

  • Free and non-commercial. Our programs and resources are provided at no cost and do not sell or promote products.
  • Non-partisan. A commitment to non-partisanship guides everything we do.
  • Collaborative. We work with governments, educators, community organizations, and partners across the country to build resources that meet real needs.
  • Practical and accessible. We focus on clear, usable information that helps people take confident action in their own lives.
